Advent: who is Jesus?

This is one of my favourite Advent verses. These names give me such a sense of safety and provision; and a tangible reminder that Jesus is all that we need: A completely trustworthy counsellor; a Father who loves us unconditionally; a mighty God who can do anything; and a Prince of Peace who wants only what is best for us.

I am reading The Promises Bible Study and learnt over the weekend that wonderful means “beyond a person’s capabilities, unsolvable for man, or a miracle of God“. It really helped me grasp the divinity of a Wonderful Counsellor.

Going deeper: Listen here to this verse in context, a recording I made last Advent.

About expectantlylistening

Writing about my contemplative journey to come closer to Jesus. I hope to inspire and equip others on their journey.

  1. Me too! We say it with our boys during Advent devotions and I never tire of its truth!

Thanks for this post! I learned something new too! Wonderful Counsellor will take on new meaning to me as I hear it sung over and again this season!
    Nice to meet you!
